Bus Driver

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • Must have a valid driver’s license

  • Must not have more than four (4) points against your license or motor vehicle record (MVR) including no more than four (4) points against your license or motor vehicle record in the previous twelve months

  • Must have had your driver’s license for at least one (1) year

  • Must pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen

  • Must complete 20 hours of classroom training in school bus operation

  • Must be able to pass a SC Department of Transportation (DOT) physical

  • Must pass written exams at the SC Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to include general knowledge, air brakes, passenger knowledge and school bus knowledge

  • Must complete a minimum of 10 hours of behind-the-wheel training to drive a school bus but this may take more dependent on applicant ability

  • Must pass driving test by state certified trainer in driving, and pass the Physical Performance Test (PPT)

  • Must complete and pass a pre-trip inspection skills course and road test

  • Must pass the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) driving test for a school bus and obtain a CDL with P and S endorsements (P - Passenger Vehicle/S - School Bus)

  • Must attend ALL required Bus Driver training and in-service 

Bus Monitor

  • Must pass a criminal background check

  • Must pass Physical Assessment Test (PPT)

  • Must attend ALL required Bus Aide training and in-service

  • Special Education Bus Aides must complete specialized training on how to address the needs of students with various disabilities.
