Adult education services provide academic skills instruction, GED preparation, High School Diploma and reading instruction for eligible adults. Adult education assists adults in improving educational attainment levels and successfully entering employment and continuing education. The instruction may also include life skills, employability skills and computer literacy as well as Career and Technology Training.

Lancaster County Adult Education programs provide instruction aligned with the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education (CCRS) to assist unemployed (and under-employed) individuals, as well as individuals seeking to transition to postsecondary education and ultimately employment with family sustainable wages to improve academic and workplace skills in pursuit of a GED®.

Career education consists of job specific training in the areas of Welding and CNA. These services are offered during evening hours at the Lancaster County Career Center.

LCAE is committed to moving more GED® graduates on to postsecondary education. The GED test has opened doors to better jobs and college programs for more than 20 million graduates since 1942. The GED test is accepted by virtually all U.S. colleges and employers.

Student Resources

If you didn't finish high school, there are classes at Lancaster Adult Education to prepare you to take the GED® test.

If you are a high school graduate and need to improve your reading, math, or communication skills, you can obtain services through Lancaster Adult Education.

Registration Requirements & Schedule

In order to register, you must attend our three-day intake. The intake schedule is as follows:

Intake Schedule:

Day 1: Complete registration paperwork, sign up for WIOA (if applicable), take TABE Assessment (reading and math)

Day 2: Finish TABE test, review and explain TABE results, understanding GED/Diploma requirements

Day 3: Workforce Wednesday including WIOA presentation, guest speakers, MyGED accounts/APEX overview

Spring 2025 Dates:

April 14-16

May 12-14 - LAST ORIENTATION

Each intake session is from 08:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Need Help Learning English?

Each county in Lancaster has a center and classrooms for adult education conveniently located. Instruction is provided to adults who want to become more fluent in English, pass U.S. citizenship tests and work on job-seeking skills.

English speaking, reading and writing are very important. Better English skills positively affect daily life, work opportunities and learning. Many students come to English classes with no previous English language learning. Adult educators are very experienced and enjoy working with adult students of all nationalities and backgrounds.

The adult education centers throughout the Commonwealth provide comfortable learning methods and environments. The students get the skills and tools necessary to help them adapt successfully to life in Lancaster.
