TEACHER/SPECIAL AREAS EVALUATION

South Carolina uses the Expanded ADEPT evaluation system to formally evaluate teachers using the South Carolina Teaching Standards (SCTS) 4.0 rubric.  Teachers must successfully complete all ADEPT requirements in order to be eligible  to advance to a professional teaching certificate. The components of ADEPT are assigned to an individual teacher and are based upon the teacher’s contract level:

• Induction contract teachers fall under the guidelines of Lancaster’s Supporting Teachers and Rewarding Them (START) induction program.  Additionally, Induction 2 teachers will have an individualized plan based on their identified area(s) of growth.

• Annual contract teachers who have not completed the state-mandated summative evaluation fall under the guidelines of Expanded ADEPT 2018 for Classroom-Based teachers (SCTS 4.0) or Expanded ADEPT 2021 for Special Areas (School Counselors, School Librarian, Speech Language Pathologists). Typically, these educators have completed the induction program, have an initial teaching certificate, or are in their first year as a reciprocally certified South Carolina educator.

• Annual contract teachers that have completed the formal summative evaluation will fall under the guidelines for Goals-Based Evaluation (GBE).

• Continuing contract educators are formatively evaluated every five years. Teachers that are in the fifth year of their evaluation cycle and renewing their professional teaching certificates will  fall under the guidelines of Expanded ADEPT 2018 for Classroom-Based teachers (SCTS 4.0) or Expanded ADEPT 2021 for Special Areas (School Counselors, School Librarian, Speech Language Pathologists).

• Continuing contract teachers who are not formally being evaluated will fall under the guidelines for Goals-Based Evaluation (GBE).
