Happy Wednesday, Warriors! We have a throwback post for you from April. Yes, April is considered "throw back" now that it's May! ;)
For Earth Day, fifth graders in Mrs. Roberts' and Mrs. Goodwin's class used materials that would normally be thrown away to create something new. The assignment was to design and build something that was useful and/or artistic. Teachers supplied items such as cardboard boxes, jars, bottles, and packing supplies. These students really used their imaginations to make some awesome projects!
We are so impressed, the projects look amazing! Thanks for sharing with us Mrs. Roberts and Mrs. Goodwin!

We want to wish our amazing Principal Brad Johnson a very happy National Principal's Day! Mr. Johnson has worked so hard in the last three years to create an environment where the students thrive, feel supported and are able to truly embody our "Think Big, Dream Bigger" motto! Staff members are grateful for his unwavering support because it allows us to be the best we can be for our Warriors.
Mr. Johnson, you're the best!

We cant' wait to see you out THIS FRIDAY at PTO's Friday Night Lights Event!
It's going to be an epic night: come watch the game, enjoy dinner at the food trucks, make signs to support the players and cheer squad, and pick up some raffle tickets for incredible prizes! There's also still a need for parent volunteers, check out the sign up genius below!

A Special Request from Nurse Leslie!

Happy Spring! It is time for the band's spring fundraiser, SnapRaise! This is a donation based fundraiser that will last until May 20th. Our goal is $5,000 and we are already over halfway to that goal with not even being a week into the fundraiser! Thank you to all of you that have donated so far, it is greatly appreciated. These funds will go towards end of the year instrument repairs and purchases as well as getting us started on our projects for next year. Thank you again for all of the support that you have shown the ILIS band this year. Go Warriors!

Did you know the Titanic sunk 111 years ago this year? Students are still fascinated by the story of the ill fated ship even all these years later. Ms. Chiravelli used the history of the Titanic and merged it with her math lesson!
She writes: "We are doing a Titanic themed measurement project! Students each received a boarding and passenger pass. At the end of our project, they will be able to learn about their passenger. Students are converting measurements using customary, metric, and time. The measurements are all centered around the Titanic, such as the type of food served (capacity) and progression of the events that occurred (time)."
What a way to make math come alive, Ms. Chiravelli! Thanks for sharing!

We want to send a HUGE congratulations to Ms. Riddle and 40 of her amazing band students!
She writes: "Did you know the Titanic sunk 111 years ago this year? Students are still fascinated by the story of the ill fated ship even all these years later. Ms. Chiravelli used the history of the Titanic and merged it with her math lesson!
She writes: "This weekend, 40 ILIS Band students participated in the SCBDA Solo and Ensemble Festival at Sullivan Middle School. There were 16 entries that performed — 4 of them received a Superior Rating from the judges (the highest rating given) and 12 received an Excellent Rating (the second highest rating given). Most of those Excellent Ratings were only a point or two away from Superior! We are so proud of the progress these students have made this year. Please congratulate these wonderful musicians!!”
Remember- our students have only been in band for a most two years. We are so proud of their hard work, and the support given to them by Ms. Riddle. Way to go, Warriors!

Happy Monday! We hope you all had a nice weekend!
We wanted to share a project with you that Ms. Phillips’ class is working on. She writes, “Today and over the next two weeks my students will learn, while making observations, that plants obtain materials they need for growth mainly from air and water. They created a makeshift Hydroponic garden to watch plants grow without soils!”
These look amazing! We will be sure to update you with how their plants are growing!

We are only ONE MONTH AWAY from the ILIS Players’ performance of “Aladdin”! ILIS Players, also known as our Drama Club, is made up students who joined through an audition process back in December. Since then, they’ve rehearsed twice a week after school running lines, working on blocking and preparing for the performance of their lives! This year, the directors were able to create three casts to include even more students than last year. You can check out performances at the Lancaster High School Multipurpose Building May 13th, May 14th and May 15th!
Tickets will be on sale soon!

Our art department is an amazing place at ILIS! Exciting lessons are happening all the time. We are thrilled to highlight one that combines history AND art! This week in Mr. Carter’s class, his 5th grade students are working on Sumi-E. This is a Japanese style of ink painting used for centuries as a way of capturing the beauty of nature. In this activity students were allowed to explore the brush and discover different mark making techniques.
Thanks for sharing with us, Mr. Carter!

Don't forget 5th Graders- you earned a Pajama Day TOMORROW, Tuesday, March 26th!

Our School Spirit was *so* strong last week as we were Celebrating Minds of All Kinds! We appreciate our students wearing the corresponding color (or accessory!) to show support to each group we highlighted. The sense of community we have at ILIS is something we are very proud of, and we are grateful to our Warriors for participating!

We were able to make a HUGE donation to Belair Methodist's Food Bank thanks to the generosity of our Warrior Families. Thank you to all who donated!
With that being said, our 5th graders won the Grade Wars battle! To celebrate their victory, they have been awarded a Pajama Day! Parents- allow your 5th Graders to roll into school on TUESDAY, MARCH 26TH in their pjs!
Thank you again to all who donated!

Happy Thursday, everyone! We hope you're enjoying this gorgeous weather before the rain comes back!
Ms. Pickron had a really cool lesson in her class today. Here she is to tell you all about it!
"Currently, students in 5th grade are working on their Geometry Unit; Students have been exploring concepts of shapes and using hands-on-learning to identify properties of quadrilaterals. First, students began with manipulatives to physically compose and decompose shapes. Then, they had the opportunity to construct a Quadrilateral Robot of their own design."
Great work, everyone!

Our ILIS community came out STRONG for our first 💡Encore Expo💡! We want to say a big thank you to everyone who showed up to make the night a success! Our Encore teachers put in love and passion into their curriculum everyday, and gave tremendous thought, effort and planning to prepare for last night. Our students work hard every day to think big, and truly dream bigger as they create, explore and play in their encore classes (which often allow them to really flex their creativity)!
Last night our families were able to see work, videos or displays from Computers, Journalism, PE, Art, STEM and Music! We hope as you walked around and saw what your child is able to experience every day, you were just as impressed as we are with their accomplishments and the curriculum provided by their teachers!
We also want to say a huge thank you to the Media Center and its volunteers for having a blockbuster of an opening day at the 📚book fair📚! It seemed to never slow down from opening until “Closing Time”. Thank you Media Center, and thank you families for shopping! Enjoy your new books! 😁
We hope you had as wonderful a night as we did. Thank you for coming out to celebrate your students’ hard work with your family, for supporting our book fair and we hope you enjoyed the food trucks as much as we did!
Thank you so much, Warriors!

It's here! Indian Land Intermediate's FIRST EVER Encore Expo! Come visit the OPENING NIGHT of the book fair! Come eat something delicious from the food trucks! But most of all, come enjoy the incredible work your students have been creating in their encore classes. We are so proud of our students, and you will be too.
Attached is a photo of the map and a reminder about the clear bag policy. We cannot wait to see you tonight!

We hope everyone had a wonderful "pi day"! Our students celebrated in both fifth and sixth grade. Here are photos from Ms. Boykin's and Ms. Richmond's classes! Ms. Boykins 5th graders did a writing assignment in ELA, and Ms. Richmond's made skylines with digits of pi.
Thanks for sharing with us! And we can't wait to see everyone tomorrow!
