Lancaster High School alumni Alex Melgar presented a bill at the South Carolina Student Legislature (SCSL) LEGISLATURE. South Carolina Student Legislature (SCSL) is a student-run mock legislature. Colleges and universities in the State of South Carolina send delegations to two annual sessions to debate bills and further their knowledge about parliamentary procedure and state government.
Alex proposed to amend Article 13 Section 23-3-1100 of the SC Code of Laws to allow unlawful or lawful immigrants to obtain a translator when law enforcement determines their immigration status. The bill presented by Alex Melgar was unanimously passed in the committee and the house.
